Alfa Sustainable Projects proudly announces that the Alfa Campus has achieved Zero Carbon (ZC) 1.0 Certification™ from the International Living Future Institute, making it the first project in Israel and the region to earn this prestigious recognition. This achievement positions Alfa Campus among an elite group of certified projects worldwide, reflecting Alfa’s unwavering commitment to leading Israel’s construction industry toward a zero-carbon future.
Alfa Campus achieved this milestone through various sustainable materials and innovative building operations practices. These include renovation of an existing structure (saving several tons of concrete), solar panels, low-carbon fit-out materials, smart waste and water management, and real-time performance monitoring. The campus leverages cutting-edge technologies such as SolarEdge, Radgreen sensors, and Homebiogas which allow the campus to achieve zero organic waste by producing cooking biogas for team lunches with compost.
“With Alfa Campus, we’ve proven that aiming for the highest standards in zero-carbon design is not only achievable but at the same time is the right financial choice,” said Chen Shalita, Founder and CEO of Alfa Sustainable Projects. “This modest case study may serve as proof that ZERO CARBON buildings may be achieved not only by wealthy corporates with deep pockets, but also by small firms and private businesses that have very limited resources “.
“We are thrilled to see Alfa Campus leading the way in Israel, especially by reusing an existing structure,” said Lisa Carey Moore, Director, Buildings, at Living Future. “This certification underscores the growing momentum for zero-carbon projects globally and demonstrates the possibilities of sustainable transformation in the built environment at all scales.”
To date, Alfa has helped clients reduce more than 100,000 tons of CO2. The company collaborates with high-profile real-estate organizations and multinational corporations to deliver and certify sustainable building projects through internationally recognized standards, including LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Living Future’s Zero Energy and Zero Carbon, and GNFZ.
In addition to Alfa Campus, Alfa is involved in multiple projects aligned with Living Future’s rigorous standards, such as:
- Amot Campus, Givatayim, which is nearing completion of ILFI Zero Carbon 1.0 Certification™.
- Hadera Kindergartens, officially achieved Zero Energy 1.0 Certification™ in 2018.
The certification process for ZC Certification™ by Living Future requires a rigorous evaluation and reduction of building energy use, renewable energy generation, and reduction and offset (if necessary) of embodied carbon. Alfa worked with industry partners to achieve this milestone, piloting green building technologies and contracting for local solar power through a power purchase agreement. Alfa Campus sets a regional precedent for adopting a holistic approach to carbon reduction.
