Tel Aviv’s Red Line: Abba Hill Station has achieved LEED for Transit Silver certification, marking a milestone for sustainable urban development.
As the first project of its kind in Israel and the second in the world to achieve this recognition, the station is setting an inspiring example for environmentally responsible transit projects.
In a collaboration between NTA Alfa and the U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC), Abba Hill Station participated as a pilot project for the LEED for Transit program. This initiative aimed to enhance sustainable design principles in transit-oriented developments, making them more eco-friendly and energy-efficient.

Background
Abba Hillel station on the Tel Aviv light-rail Red Line, selected as the international pilot for the new LEED for Transit rating developed under a USGBC-NTA MOU.
Approach
The station uses 7% less energy than ASHRAE 90.1-2010, supplies 60% more fresh air to platform and concourse with continuous CO2/CO/PM2.5/PM10/O3 monitoring, cuts water use 40%, diverts 86% of construction waste, supports intermodal bike/bus/walking connections, and includes a custom LEED-approved disaster-preparedness plan.
